Hello,
My name is Jeanne Langelier. Born, Jeanne Cote of Lewiston, Maine.
I was born a normal healthy child but in 1942, at
the age of 12, there was an epidemic of influenza and I got a severe case of it. I had a temperature of 106 ° and it caused me to fall into a coma and lose my hearing.
Upon recovering, I was determined to conquer my disability. I could talk English and French. I entered normal schools, and passing the year from 6th grade to 7th , however, the teacher in the 7th grade did not want to bother with me and tried to have me expelled, but since my grades were passing she could not win. I made passing grades every year from then on, graduating from Lewiston High school in 1950 and I was very happy with that!
I then went to New York where I attended Bible College and stayed for one year, working my way through. I did however, decide to leave as working took up most of my time for studying. Consequently, I came back to Maine.
I married, and had three sons - Timothy, Stephen, and Aaron Devoe. I then entered a school of nursing and graduated a C.N.A. I was told, I qualified to extend my training to an L.P.N. but due to my hearing problem I declined. I did however become an assistant to the R.N. & I was also licensed to give out medications.
In 1983, I was forced to retire due to a back injury from working so hard and lifting patients. I have since been a home maker for my family, doing Christian work in the church, and I am happy with the life I now lead, doing needlework, and going to church. |
